INSPIRATION & ENCOURAGEMENT FOR EACH DAY OF UTC PANHELLENIC RECRUITMENT

Day 3: Control Freak

One thing that makes this week so difficult is the fact that you can’t really determine what will happen. You can’t choose which houses will invite you back, so you don’t really have total control of which house you will end up spending so much time in for the next four years. It It is overwhelming! I’m sure you have felt the stress about not being in control many times before this, and you’ll feel it plenty of times again.

Read Philippians 4:4-6--

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

1 Peter 5:6-7--

““God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because He cares for you.”

Read Matthew 6:25-26--

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Ask

He is in control, and He cares about everything in your life! How does that make you feel? Is it hard for you to let God be in control? Why?

Pray

What are you holding on to that you need to let go of? Say a prayer and ask God to take care of those things instead of you.

Think About It

Have you trusted God with the outcome of your week?
What other things could you trust Him with besides sorority life? What heart adjustments can you make to release control to God?

From the Greek Cru staff

We’re glad you’re here!

We’re Savannah & Lauren, some of the Greek Cru staff at UTC. Recruitment Week will be one of fun and excitement, and probably some anxiety as well. Our hope is to encourage you as you participate in recruitment and as you transition to college. Greek Cru exists as a spiritual resource for you in the Greek system at UTC and we hope we can connect with you!

No matter what you currently think about God or Jesus, we pray this devotional helps as recruitment can bring up questions or doubts about purpose, significance, and a sense of security in uncertain times.

You may not be able to do the devotions every day, but do what you can—answer questions, read, think, and pray. And feel free to reach out to process more if you’d like.
